A Visit to Heaven
Gamarala Had a paddy field. He liked it very much. But wild elephant ate his paddy every night. So he built a watch-hut near the field and watched the paddy and slept in it at night.
One moonlight night Gamarala saw a golden elephant in the field. He was surprised. He wanted to catch it. So he ran to the elephant and caught its tail. Then at once, the elephant rose up. And Gamarala was hanging from its tail.
Soon the golden elephant rose high up in the sky. It passed through many clouds and came to a wonderful city.
It was a beautiful city. There were silver streets everywhere. The house was made of gold. They were in flower gardens. The trees there were full of flowers. Gamarala did not know their names. There were large fruit gardens. Those trees were full of fruits. Gamarala did not know their names either.
"Oh, this is heaven !" Gamarala cried out. "I have come to heaven!" So the whole day Gamarala went up and down the street of heaven. He saw many strange things. In the evening he wanted to go home. So he went to the city gate and rested. Soon the golden elephant came there. And Gamarala ran to it and got hold of its tail.
The elephant came down and got into Gamarala's fields. Then it began to eat the paddy. Gamarala ran home fast.
Gamarala's wife came to the door. His son and daughter ran to him, too. 'Where were you? What were you doing?" they asked him.
